Meeting Myself

Stephen Nichols

A few years ago, I taught a course on Jonathan Edwards at London Theological Seminary.  I saw Stephen Nichols on the roster, thinking it was I.  Turns out, it was a student named Stephen Nichols.  Stephen, who grew up in London and was a member of John Stott's church, was beginning his PhD work.  He intended to write on, of all things, Jonathan Edwards.

I recently heard from Stephen.  He completed his PhD, successfully defending his dissertation entitled, "The Relationship of the Old and New Testaments in the Theology of Jonathan Edwards."  Dr. Nichols has also taken a pastoral charge, recently appointed assistant minister at the historic St. Andrews Church in Plymouth.  As Stephen told me in a recent email, tradition has it that the Pilgrims gathered for prayer at St. Andrews before setting sail for the New World, the minister there being sympathetic to the Pilgrim cause.

So there I am.  I mean, there he is.
