Ghostbusters

Stephen Nichols

I came across this quote in reading Charles Briggs's infamous inaugural address, "The Authority of Holy Scripture" (1891), the address that led to his ouster from the PCUSA:  "[The theory of inerrancy] is a ghost of modern evangelicalism to frighten children."

So I asked my five-year old and recently turned four-year-old if they thought the word inerrancy to be scary.  One looked puzzled, one laughed.  Turns out Briggs is wrong (again).
