I have no time whatsoever for American sports, least of all the tedious posing that is 'football,' but Hans Madueme has drawn my attention to a very thoughtful analysis of the Superbowl by Covenant College professor, Matthew Vos. You can find it here.
My only further comment would be that the quotation from Jay Coakley seems perhaps to underplay the sexualisation of women cheerleaders. Portraying women as sexual objects would seem to me to be at the heart of professional cheerleading.
