Derelics?
Posted by
So the Catholics have their relics and we have our.... commemorative volumes? How long before John Calvin Soap on A Rope? A signed photo of Del at the Reformers' wall? Would that qualify as a Derelic, I wonder? Del's comments on Geneva (where, despite the strange rumours, I am not and never have been) have sent me reaching for the keyboard. The idea of a commemorative volume sounds dangerously close to proof positive of the theory that Reformed Christianity, with its culture of megaconferences and its cult of megaspeakers, is just another niche market in the consumerist world in which we all now live.
Of course, the more important event today is the memorial service for Michael Jackson. Where, O Death, is thy victory? For answers, turn to the back page of the Jackson Memorial Commemorative Volume (details later).
