Spiritual History of Lewis and Harris

Iain D Campbell
Birlinn has just published John Macleod's spiritual history of Lewis and Harris, entitled Banner in the West. It traces that history from the earliest days of Celtic Christianity to the present 'Bebo generation' (to use the title of the final chapter). With a fascinating collection of photographs, and a pace and humour that make it eminently readable, this book will have a wide appeal. More than that, however, it will be a landmark and benchmark work for anyone interested in telling the story of how a small island on the northwest corner of Europe has been for so long the theatre of God's saving work. John Macleod is a freelance journalist, and a son of Principal Donald Macleod of the Free Church College. One cover comment describes this as very possibly the book he was born to write.
