Hitch on Pat

You'll find an interesting response from Christopher Hitchens to Pat Buchanan's latest book (on how World War 2 was `unnecessary' here. I include it here because of the influence Buchanan has over many members of the Christian Right.
For those of my grandfather's generation, Churchill's problem was not his wartime leadership or his `voice crying in the wilderness' attitude of the late 30s, but rather that he used the troops to break up the miners' strike. The man was more or less a failure until he reached normal retirement age (giving hope to us all). Politically, WC spent his entire life getting it wrong on just about everything -- except, of course, for the only thing that really, really mattered. So he's one better than Pat B then.
