What is Anglicanism?
The First Things webpage carries a very interesting, and in parts very moving, article, What is Anglicanism?, written by the Ugandan church leader, Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi. I'm generally not a big fan of Anglicanism as a phenomenon (mourning every day for the failure of the Grand Old Cause). I disagree with his characterisation of the Elizabethan Settlement as a truce between Catholic and Puritan sentiments -- more a ferocious non-Puritan Protestant attack on both -- but, the odd dodgy historical judgment aside, this really is an excellent piece and a reminder to all to give thanks for the grace of God shown in the lives of Christian brothers and sisters across the globe, and to pray for those taking the tough stands in the uncomfortable places.
