The School of Hard Knox

Some more book recommendations: 1. Good Dog, Carl.  My PA introduced me to these the other week.  Nice board books by Alexandra Day about a dog called -- guess what? -- Carl, described on the back cover as `baby's best friend and everyone's favorite rottweiler.'  I was touched to be given a copy by WTS bookstore man and a student of mine, Mark Traphagen.  I feel a rush of orders heading towards the WTS store as I write.

2. Postive Thinking for Calvinists: The School of Soft Knox.  By Ian Black. Black and White Publishing.  I'm guessing most Ref21 blog readers are from the school of hard Knox, but you might want to try this.  Here's a sample: `The secret of success is sincerity.  Once you can fake that, you're laughing.'  And my favourite: `One can safely assume that you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.'  I won't say who passed this gem on to me -- but His Holiness Rt Rev Ian Glover, my PA (see 1 above) wants to string you up; her day is now one vacuous joke after another.  She's not paid enought to put up with me, let alone put up with me and this kind of excuse for humour.

And how many Calvinists does it take to change a light bulb?  Two.  One to change the light bulb, the other to paint it black.  Bad joke, but nice intertextual reference to the Stones, I thought.
