A second principle for racial reconciliation from Dolphus Weary:
"Reconciliation efforts must be intentional. True reconciliation is a marathon, not a sprint. Intentional steps must be taken to reach out to those who are racially different."
This principle provides a helpful and necessary complement to the first principle: Christ must be the center. Efforts at reconciliation without Christ at the center will always fall short of true Christian unity. However, it is not enough simply to say that we are one in Christ. The unity that we have in Christ must be appropriated, in part through intentional efforts to overcome the things that threaten to divide us, such as ethnicity, even in the body of Christ.
