How Bush Bombed the World Trade Center

Don't miss the "Houses of Worship" section in today's Wall Street Journal.  Under the title "Anything goes," Heather Wilhelm writes on the newest publishing effort of the PCUSA's Westminster John Knox Press.  In a book called Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9/11, David Griffin argues that 9/11 was orchestrated by the Bush administration.  The World Trade Center was not destroyed by Islamic fundamentalists, he says, but by controlled demolitions designed to start a war in the Middle East and establish an all-powerful American empire.

And no, I am not making this up.  Happily, most leaders in the PCUSA have been quick to repudiate the book.  But one still wonders what the publishers--who are governed by a board of Presbyterian elders--were thinking.  Wilhelm quotes the old adage that "if you don't stand for something, you'll for anything."  The version I usually quote goes a little differently: "When you stop believing in the God of the Bible, you don't believe in nothing; you'll believe anything."
