Al Mohler, Paige Patterson, Calvinism and the SBC

Posted by
This morning at the Pastors' Conference prior to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention [SBC] (the annual cooperative gathering of the largest Protestant family of churches in the English-speaking world) in Greensboro, North Carolina, Alliance Council member Al Mohler (President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky) had a friendly discussion/debate/presentation on the subject of Calvinism and evangelism with our friend Paige Patterson (President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas). Well over 3000 were in attendance at two sessions repeating the material.

Calvinism is a hot topic in the SBC these days, and Al Mohler graciously and effectively presented the case for room being made for the warm, evangelistic, missions-minded, biblical, historic Calvinism of the founders of the Southern Baptist Convention in today's SBC. I hope many in the SBC will hear him and follow suit.

Our good friend Thabiti Anyabwile has done a synopsis of the "debate." Read it here. See also this report. And this one.
